Whirligig

Pick chapter or character you found interesting, intriguing, important, AND/OR meaningful. Briefly explain your choice and find a line from the text to accompany your response.

Example:  Chapter 6, Anthony: I think the chapter with Anthony is one of the best. Not only does it give a humorous relief to the serious tone of the novel, it is a wonderful example of the author’s ability to change the “voice” of each character in the novel. For instance, Tony writes, “In my journal I write, ‘We went camping. It was fun.’” (81). As an English Teacher, I find this hysterical.

On page 46, the narrator shares, “It struck [Brent] that every family was a universe, with its own peculiar natural laws.”  How do you define family? What “peculiar natural laws” apply to your family?

1. Using the text, identify examples of issues and problems that, in your opinion, led Brent to attempt suicide.
2. Additionally, in a sentence or two, describe your feelings about the novel so far. Your answer can focus on the writing style, the plot, or your knowledge of the author.
